ABOUT CONFLUENCE AMERICORPS
Confluence Environmental Center's AmeriCorps Program catalyzes environmental justice in the Portland area by working with community Partners to develop 11-month long AmeriCorps positions that address critical environmental needs in low-income communities and communities of color.
Confluence AmeriCorps offers Members the chance to serve the community while gaining valuable skills and experience in the environmental justice field. We develop environmental leaders to address the issues of today and prepare for the concerns of tomorrow.
Confluence AmeriCorps Members commit to a 1700-hour Service project (approx. 11 months, full-time). During their Service, Members spend 80% of their time with a community partner on their chosen project and the remaining 20% with Confluence.
While serving a 1700 hour Term of Service, Confluence AmeriCorps Member's benefits include:
$13,732 living allowance distributed bi-weekly over 11 months
$5,920 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of Term of Service
$100 Training fund
Leadership Development training certificate
Student Loan forbearance
Health Care options
Child care allowance (for those who qualify)
SNAP eligibility (nutrition assistance)
Public Transit Monthly Pass (for those who qualify)
Member Fact Sheet
The Member Fact Sheet is an overview of the Confluence AmeriCorps Program and application timeline.
AmeriCorps Program Components
Each AmeriCorps Member focuses 80% of their time at a specific project site, accomplishing hands-on service with the goal of advancing an equity-informed environmental goal.
Once a month Members get together for a day-long adventure in personal and professional development with topics ranging from mushroom identification to public transportation analysis; from wilderness survival to Native American perspectives on environment. Team Meetings are planned and facilitated by a rotating pair of AmeriCorps members, giving them an opportunity to practice facilitation, planning, budgeting and education skills.
National Service Days
Each year Confluence amplifies the impact of service, education and community connection by joining thousands of AmeriCorps Members around the country to participate in National Service Day events.
Confluence participates in both Martin Luther King Jr Day (January) and Cesar Chavez + Delores Huerta Day (March). In honor of each of these leaders, a committee of Confluence AmeriCorps Members plan and organize a meaningful day of Service that is aligned with the mission and intentions of their namesake as well as providing education about their history and providing pathways to continuing their legacy.
Change Agent Project
The Change Agent Project (CAP) is an exciting opportunity for Members to spend 40-120 hours developing a project in collaboration with a community of their own choosing. CAP allows Members to practice community-driven development and project management skills that they can carry with them beyond AmeriCorps.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES (PDS)
Confluence AmeriCorps members earn a resume-enhancing certificate after participating in all ten Professional Development trainings. Past trainings include: CPR/First Aid, Volunteer Management, Racial Equity Training, Leadership, Meeting Facilitation, and more.
